Highview Drive Modern, Dolphin Point

About

This 1960s timber home has been completely reimagined into a stunning modern seaside sanctuary, combining bold colour, timeless finishes, and sustainable design. Engaged before the architect, Onform Building collaborated closely with the client from the outset, ensuring the renovation aligned with her vision and budget. This teamwork allowed for a creative and efficient build that celebrates both modern living and the character of the original home.

Natural light floods the interior, thanks to thoughtfully placed windows and doors that frame picturesque seaside views. Bold colour accents add personality, while the use of durable, high-quality finishes ensures the home remains timeless. Small nods to the original 1960s structure—like exposed beams and posts—preserve its charm, with the renovation carefully working around these structural elements to minimise engineering complexity and costs.

Sustainability was a key focus throughout the project. Much of the existing hardwood framing was retained and integrated into the new design, reducing landfill waste and maintaining a low carbon footprint. The home’s layered history, with three previous additions since the 1960s, presented unique challenges, including managing varied levels of concrete and timber framing. However, this labour-intensive process allowed the renovation to embrace the home’s original footprint while achieving a seamless, cohesive finish.

The result is a breathtaking seaside retreat that marries bold contemporary design with a deep respect for the original structure, offering a beautiful, sustainable, and thoughtfully executed haven.
